Welcome to Kingston, Ontario and to CATR/ACRT 2018 – Fieldwork: Excavations and Exchanges in Drama, Dance, Theatre, and Performance Studies.
This year the conference committee invites us to move within and across disciplinary boundaries; to enhance our critical perspectives through lectures, presentations, seminars, roundtables, workshops, performances, career sessions, book launches, and related events; and to develop new strategies for transforming art and scholarship into “sites of empowerment and further understanding” (2018 CATR Call).
The diversity of events listed in the conference schedule is a testament to the quality and range of work shaping our fields today and I look forward to lively, enriching exchanges in the beautiful Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Jenn Stephenson, Craig Walker, and the members of their programming and local arrangements committees for the countless hours they have dedicated to making the conference experience as enriching and enjoyable as possible for you.
Of course, there are numerous ways for you to become involved with CATR/ACRT beyond the annual conference. This includes serving on awards committees, convening a working group, or running for an elected position on the board. To learn more, please stop by the information table at the conference, where members of the CATR board will be available to chat and answer your questions.
I also hope to see many of you at the awards banquet on Thursday, May 31, where we will celebrate the achievements of our members, past, present, and future.
Best wishes for a wonderful CATR/ACRT 2018.
CATR/ACRT President, 2016-2018
