On the first day of the conference FIXT POINT creators will present a 90-minute interactive workshop presenting insights gleaned from from their experience creating and producing their national oral history and theatre production series The Tale of a Town. Community engagement and public presentation collide as they work through step by step the methodology they’ve developed to work collaboratively with communities across the country.
During the conference, FIXT POINT artists will set up their booth in the lobby of the Isabel Bader Centre to collect the oral history of our own “hometown” from CATR members to create The Tale of a Town — CATR. On the closing day of the conference, as part of a special concluding event, FIXT POINT will share a video of their work The Tale of a Town — Canada with us.
Before meeting up with FIXT POINT and The Tale of a Town in Kingston in May, please do check out their upcoming Toronto show.

Since 2014, FIXT POINT has travelled to every province and territory in Canada. In over 150 communities, they have documented the living memories of over 3000 people, presenting the stories back to local communities through multimedia presentations. From podcasts, to an interactive online story portal, to a ten-episode TVO series – these tales have been shared across the country, and now culminate in a nationally touring theatre production.
Created by husband and wife duo, Charles Ketchabaw and Lisa Marie DiLiberto, The Tale of a Town – Canada features some of the thousands of voices recorded on their three-year storygathering tour of the country. This multimedia performance is presented alongside personal anecdotes from this epic family adventure peppered with humour, nostalgia and moments of madness. The Tale of a Town – Canada has been developed in collaboration with artists from across the country, and this Toronto performance includes a choir, a live band, and surprise appearances from local notables.
This Toronto stop on their 9-city national tour is a special homecoming for the company. After touring Canada in their storymobile, FIXT POINT is thrilled to bring the Tale of a Town back home to Theatre Passe Muraille, where the project had its first presentation in 2011, with The Tale of a Town – Queen West.
